I’ve always been fascinated with colours. But, as I settled into life with family responsibilities, the shades and hues got relegated. The academic in me made me join jobs in the education sector. However, the present education system, with it’s marks focussed approach , leaving no room for creativity and originality, could not enthuse me for long. One fine day, I suddenly quit teaching .
The sabbatical which followed gave me ample time to dabble in watercolours. What started as a child like curiosity with colours slowly took a distinct form, and I gradually got immersed in it. While experimenting with colours, I came close to the world of art and painting. The part time hobby, took the form of an obsession. During this phase, I came across the amazing watercolour paintings of Milind Mulick and got hugely inspired by the artist.
Vilas Kulkarni of Pune, an accomplished artist himself taught me the finer aspects of the art . Those six months of attending his workshop proved very significant in my life. I had an eye for colours , now, I feel , I’ve acquired a vision. I love nature and I’m a keen observer of the connect between people and ‘prakriti’. I find water colours very ethereal and challenging. I could feel this form of art having a transformative effect in my own persona. Besides being passionate about it, I find watercolours soothing and comforting. For me painting is a stress buster and is meditative. Participation in various exhibitions in Chandigarh,Panchkula, Delhi, Siliguri, Kolkata has kept me updated about the current scenario in the art world. I especially take pride in participating in the exhibitions in Academy of fine arts, Kolkata and Arpana Caur fine art gallery, New Delhi. Well no goal posts ,as such . Continuously thinking about colours, giving a willing ear to critiques and feedbacks, striving to iron out flaws, keeping the enthusiasm going and working towards excellence.
